Aquila Nidus is an authentic Montessori school in Gbagada, Lagos, where children are respected and understood as they grow. Founded in 2012 by Mrs Ajoke David as the product of a divine mandate, we opened with four pupils on the ground floor of her home and have taught more than three hundred children since. Every classroom is led by an AMI-certified guide, and what we are raising is a child who is independent, responsible and respectful.

Every Classroom Led by an AMI-Certified Guide
Montessori is not a protected term in Nigeria. A school can put it on a gate, buy a few wooden toys, and run an ordinary classroom behind it. AMI is the Association Montessori Internationale, established by Maria Montessori in 1929 to prevent exactly that. Its diplomas are externally examined and remain the most rigorous Montessori qualification in the world. Every lead guide at Aquila Nidus holds one for the age group they work with, and so does our founder.

Your child learns to focus deeply
A Montessori school runs its mornings in long, unbroken stretches of work, where a child absorbed in something is not pulled away from it by a bell or a change of subject. Concentration is a skill, and it is built by not being interrupted.

In a Montessori classroom children choose their own work from materials matched to their stage. Choosing something, starting it and seeing it through without being instructed builds a real love for learning early.

Montessori materials are designed so a child sees the error for themselves and tries again. What grows out of that is a child who is not afraid to be wrong.

All three of our communities run here, from Nido through to Children's House, with indoor and outdoor spaces designed for children to move, work and play freely. It is a peaceful and secure place, built entirely around what a child needs. You are welcome to visit us during school hours.

We do not blend Montessori with a traditional curriculum, and we do not use the name without the practice behind it.
